THE SOCIAL EASEL Story
The Social Easel began after lifelong artist & owner Christie Hawkins planned a painting birthday party for her daughter Kiley's 10th birthday in October 2013. She had her husband, Corey, build her first 10 easels for the group of girls. She led the group of ten girls through the painting and they all turned out great! The moms arrived to pick up the girls and wanted to do their own Mom's Paint Night because it looked so fun. Christie went to sketching and came up with her first design. She had a close group of friends over to her house for a trial run to see if this could work. And it did!
At the time, she thought this would just be something fun she could do a couple times a month while raising her 3 daughters and going to school full-time to finish her degree in Graphic Design. Little did she know, it would become much bigger than that. With the party being a success, Christie and her husband Corey started working on a name for her business. While on a date night, they came up with The Social Easel. Christie launched her business in January of 2014.
The original idea was to do in-home private painting parties like she did with her friends as well as birthday parties for children. It quickly turned into much more when she hosted her first Open Paint Night at a small boutique in Springfield. Women were able to come as one or as a group of girls to learn a step-by-step painting with no experience needed. It quickly caught on and Christie became so busy with paint nights that she decided to put school on hold and devote 100% of her time to building The Social Easel.
Now The Social Easel is celebrating its 3rd birthday! Christie is doing several Open Paint Nights a month at local venues and restaurants in the Springfield, MO area! She runs The Social Easel on her own while balancing the busy life of having 3 daughters and a husband! Currently, she is the only instructor and works a few nights per week offering Open Paint Nights in Springfield! These events have been selling out for nearly a year! She is constantly coming up with new art and ideas to keep the paint nights fun and exciting!
In addition to paint nights, now The Social Easel has expanded to include Craft Nights! Our instructor Amy will lead you through your own Paint & Go Wood Projects!
